"The funeral service for Mrs Rollie Clark Hulburd, wife of the late P Burnham Hulburd, was held in Erie on Monday. Mrs Hulburd was the daughter of Sarah Frances Elderkin [Clark], a sister of Mrs Flora Patchen, wife of Herbert Patchen, both deceased. Mrs Hulburd's father, Rollin C Clark, was reared in the vicinity of Titusville and in the 1870s he became very active in oil speculation, meeting with considerable success. It was at this time that he formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, Murray Warren, who married Ida Elderkin. Clark and Warren engaged in producing and refining in the Bradford oil field. Mr Clark died in 1884 and at that time the partners owned and operated what at that time was said to be the most complete and modern oil refinery in the United States which was located in Corry with a branch plant in Baltimore. A photograph of their plan is now in the Drake Memorial Museum in Titusville. Mrs Hulburd is survived by two daughters, Mrs George Metcalf and Mrs Henry Fryling, both of Erie."
