Tom H. Hamilton Succumbs at 43

Funeral services for Thomas H. Hamilton 43, well known Decatur service station operator, are to be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church. Mr. Hamilton died suddenly Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at his home, 1037 Sherman St. after a heart attack.

Service is to be conducted by the Rev. A. B. Van Arsdale and Jimmy Falkner with interment in Oakview Memorial Cenetery [later moved to Roselawn] to be directed by Brown Funeral Co.

The body is to be returned to the residence this afternoon at 4:30 and on Saturday will lie in state at the church from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Hamilton; four children, Betty Hazel, Gene, Lou Ann and Sarah; two brothers, Gaston Hamilton, Mobile, Eldred Hamilton, Luverne; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Evers, Mrs. W. B. Welch, Jr., both of Memphis, and Mrs. Karl Link, Decatur.

The son of the late S. I. and Henrietta Chritzberg Hamilton of Luverne, Ala., Mr. Hamilton attended school in Luverne and in 1926 came to Priceville to attend school where his brother, the late E. G. Hamilton, was principal.

He was graduated from Decatur High School in 1931 and was a member of the Decatur Red Raiders.

From the time of his graduation until 1944 he worked for Goodrich and Goodyear Service Station in Decatur and in 1944 went into business for himself, operating Tom Hamilton's service station and recapping plant. He was employed by L&N Railroad for a short time before entering business for himself.

Mr. Hamilton was the first president of the Alabama Independent Service Station Assn. and at the time of his death was a member of the state board of directors. He was a member of the Decatur Civitan Club, having served as club vice president, and the Central Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Roy Odom, Ray Kelley, Jim Witcher, Donald Branum, Meredith Woodall, Robert Abernathy, Robert Bibb, and Dr. J. B. Wiley.
