Barbara Howard Hale, 95, of Spring City and Centerville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, in Centerville.
She was the daughter of William Franklin and Maggie Carden Howard, both pioneer families of Polk County.
She was born in Polk County on Feb. 5, 1915.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Park Hughes Hale; brothers: Frank Howard and Warren Howard; sisters: Jane Cook and Anna Burchfield.
She was a devoted member of Spring City First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was active in her Sunday school class, the WMU, and served for years on various committees.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Spring City Woman's Club, the TVA Retirees and AARP local chapters.
Survivors include her sister, Helen Howard Hale of Benton; daughter, Linda Hale Mays (Melvin); grandson, Robert Melvin Mays (Christy) two great-grandchildren (who were the light of her life): Cooper Mays and Liza Mays; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Benton Station Baptist Church in Benton with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ken Clayton and the Rev. Joel Jenkins will officiate.
The visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville.
For those friends who prefer, non-floral memorial expressions may be sent to Spring City First Baptist Church, Benton Station Baptist Church and Cemetery fund or to Centerville United Methodist Church in Centerville.
Burial will be in the Benton Station Baptist Church Cemetery.
