Jack Mitchell had this to add; He received a serious wound to the left hand in the Battle of Gettysburg, PA. This wound probably severed the tendons/muscles on the upper side of the wrist, disturbing the muscular/tendon balance and causing the
uninjured underside tendons/muscles to draw the hand into a closed-fist position.
After being treated at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, VA, he was reassigned to the Danville, VA area where he worked in a hospital.
