Revolutionary War Militia General. Served during the Revolutionary War as a Brigadier General of Tennessee State Militia. He founded the City of Knoxville in 1768, and donated the ground of the cemetery he is buried in to the city. His original log cabin has been preserved as an Historic Site, located at 205 East Hill Avenue in Knoxville.
