Transcript: Capt. Thos. J. Martin obituary, Brookhaven, Mississippi, Early Brookhaven Newspaper, 3 August 1882, p. 2
"Capt. Thos. J. Martin, an old citizen of this county, committed suicide, near Boguechitto, last Sunday morning. He had been in bad health for a long time and was confined to his bed at the time. He was missed from his room Sunday morning, search was made, and he was found a short distance in the woods, lying across a log with is throat cut from ear to ear. The deed was committed with a razor. It is supposed his mind was effected by ill health. Capt. Martin had been a prosperous farmer and one of the leading citizens of that section. He was one of the old landmarks." Thanks to Michele for this transcript.
