Sheridan L. McGarry died October 18, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of eighty-eight. He resided at 2835 East Nila Way (4120 South) in Holladay, Utah at the time of his death.

He was born September 17, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Sheridan P. McGarry and Fern H. McGarry.

On September 26, 1942, he married Ruth (Pat) Patton. Sheridan served three years during World War II, completing his required thirty-five bombing missions over Europe, and two years during the Korean War.

He received his Juris Doctors Degree from the University of Utah Law School and practiced law until he retired. He also served four years as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of Utah.

He believed that his best contribution to the field of law was in causing the Utah Supreme Court to reverse its own adverse decision in the celebrated case of Utah Resources Int., Inc. v. Utah Board of State Lands, Cite as 489 P.2d 615 (1971). (Oil Shale).

Sheridan loved the outdoors activities, especially fishing, hunting, and golf. He had been a member of the Willow Creek Country Club for thirty-six years.

He is survived by his three children, Sheridan L. McGarry, Jr., Cheryl L. Watkins, and Lex A. McGarry, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, LaRue Brewster. He had two sisters, Vera Stout and Fern Hatch, and five brothers who preceded him in death, Durrell, Chauncy, Cullen, Wendell, and Dexter McGarry.

Funeral Services will be held in the Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday, the 21st day of October, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the services at the same location.
Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery following the services.
