Gustav Bierfreund, 77, of Waverly RD 2, died at 4 p. m. yesterday in Tioga County General Hospital.

Cause of death was given as a cerebral vascular accident.

Mr. Bierfreund had been rushed to the hospital unconscious the previous night by state police who said they had to break into his house to reach him.

The troopers had been called by William Estes, a Waverly plumber, who upon failing to get an answer at Mr. Bierfreund's door had noticed
through a window that the elderly man was lying on the floor inside.

Mr. Bierfreund had lived alone since the death of his wife, Johanna, about a year and a half ago. He was a retired Tioga County farmer. He and his wife were natives of Germany.

Mr. Bierfreund is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Gordon Willis of Nichols, Mrs. Arthur Marlett of Vestal Center, Mrs. Jesse Selleck of Sayre, Pa.; and two sons, Fritz Bierfreund of Summerfield, Fla., and Gustav Bierfreund of Candor. Other survivors are in Europe.

The body was removed to Sutfin Funeral Chapel, Nichols. Funeral arrangements were pending.
