MRS. PHENIE M. HAY OF MACOMB DIED AT AGE 81
Mrs. Phenie M. Hay, 81, passed away at her home at 907 East Washington St. at 11:45 last night following an illness of seven months. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Dodsworth-Piper chapel, and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Thompson will officiate.
Mrs. Hay, the former Phenie Margaret Plate, was born March 11, 1868 at Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Lange Plate. At the age of nine she came to Illinois with her parents and lived in Fulton county until 1888. She was married to Marion F. Hay on Oct. 12, of that year, and they moved to McDonough county. She had lived in Macomb since 1921. She was a member of the Lutheran church.
Surviving are five sons and daughters, Earl Hay of Vermont, Emmor hay of Moline, Elizabeth Vance and Lola Hay of Rock Island, Perry E. Hay of Macomb; two brothers, Ed Plate of St. Louise and Charlie Plate of Marietta, a sister, Elizabeth Cook of Macomb, 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1923. Two sons, Carl and Roy, and infant son, Clyde, and three sisters are deceased. Friends may call at the chapel.
Phenie Plate Hay was always taking in a member of the family. She had a large family herself but always found room for more. Elizabeth Plate Cook lived with her sister Phenie for many years till she took George/Dwight Plate as her son when his mother, Alice Mcqueen died. Phenie also took in Homer and Mary when their mother Lulu died.
