Syble Annette (West) Ward, 83, of Newbern died Oct. 17, 2010, at her home. She was the mother of Janice Ward of Union City.

Graveside services were set for 11 a.m. today at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, with Daniel Rogers officiating and Ronnie Wyrick, Lee Hanley, Tim Abercrombie,

Jerry Hutcherson, Gary Clements and Tommy Fagan serving as pallbearers.

Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis or Fair Havens Church of Christ.

She was born June 9, 1927, in Newbern, daughter of the late James Henry and Mattie Elizabeth (Thompson) West. She was the widow of Frank P. Ward and was a retired cafeteria employee of Newbern Elementary School. She was a member of Fair Havens Church of Christ.

Survivors also include another daughter, Cindy Annette Wells of Newbern; three sons, James Harold Hughey of Bon Wier, Texas, Larry Wayne Hughey of Navarre, Fla., and Steven Michael Ward of Rozwell, N.M.; four stepdaughters, Faye Morris of Newbern, Irma Page and Tina King, both of Trimble, and Joyce Kladies of Martin; her stepson, Frank Thomas Ward of Nashville; her sister, Mae Scace of Los Angeles; and 10 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
