Florence Elizabeth Murray, daughter of Charles J. Murray and Florence Ann Richardson, was born on 28 October 1872 in Wadesboro, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. Her father died in 1876, when she was only four years old. She was enumerated in Livingston Parish during the 1880 Census, living with her widowed mother and her younger brother.
She married Gaston Raoul Kemp, son of Judge Simpson Kemp and Letitia Settoon, on 11 August 1889 in Livingston Parish. They had seven known children:
