The final curtain was drawn on the life of Mom, Mary D. Bagby on October 31, 2001 in Madera, California at the home of her beloved care provider Lorraine Rhone at approximately 4:00 P.M. She has been promoted to a place of eternal joy.
Mary began this wonderful life under the guidance of her parents, the late Rev. Dan Wedlaw and Elizabeth Jackson Wedlaw. Mary Bagby was born on Bienville Parish at Castor, Louisiana, July 20, 1890. She was reared in a Christian home and learned much about the Bible and the love of Jesus Christ at her mothers knee. She confessed Jesus Christ at an early age and united with the friendship Baptist Church of Castor, Louisiana. The Wedlaw family moved from Depew, Oklahoma in 1918. Mom Bagby moved to Madera in early 1936, where she united with the Second Missionary Baptist Church. She took an active part in all phases of her church, such as church clerk, Sunday school teacher and secretary of the Ruth Circle. Mom has as it Cor. 8:12 �A willing mind. She was a life member of the Grand Order of the Eastern Star and has been a member in good standing with the Elizabeth Chapter.
Mom Bagby lived a beautiful life and was an excellent example of a virtuous woman. She will be greatly missed by her family, church and community. Her son Elder Eddie Cathcart, her sisters, Elizabeth Reaves, Josie Evans (known as Aunt Sweet) and her two brothers preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her home going her beloved sister, Willie Jordan of Sacramento, her beloved and faithful daughter in law, Emma Cathcart of Madera, Grandchildren, David Cathcart of San Diego, and Mary Cathcart Merles of Madera, Danny Howard of Seattle, WA., her great grandchildren, Desiree, Tiffany, Amaya Cathcart, Brittany and Jovan Homcon, Deonte, Alethia, Alisha and Elijah Kelly, her devoted care providers Lorraine and Cesar Rhone and her special cousin James and Alice Jackson and a special friend Nellie C. Nelson and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 05, 2001 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the 2nd Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
