Sirilda Ellen Baker was the 7th child (of eight) of her parents, George Washington Baker (b. July 29, 1818, in Campbell County, TN.) and Lucy Anne Bryant (b. May 12, 1827, in Point Isabel, now Burnside, KY.). Her first name was also spelled as "Serilda" on several census records.

Sirilda was born on May 14, 1863, during the height of the Civil War, in Spickard, Grundy County, Missouri. We know very little about her childhood but we do know that her immediate family experienced many hardships including the loss of four of her siblings before she reached the age of eleven. Her eldest brother, William S. Baker, the first born child of her parents' family, died as a result of his Civil War service 3 1/2 months before Sirilda was even born. Another brother of Sirilda, Andrew Jackson Roberts, died just a few days before his fifth birthday and about 1 1/2 years before Sirilda was born. Two brothers who she never even met were gone before she was born. Also one of her sisters, Mary Ann Baker, died at the age of 21, when Sirilda was only nine years old. And another brother, John Perry Roberts, died when Sirilda was only ten years of age in October of 1873. In other words, four of her seven siblings were gone from her life before she had reached her 11th birthday.

When Sirilda was twenty-three years old she was married to William Sherman Roberts, son of George Irvin Roberts and Mary Frances "Fannie" King. Together they produced three children that we know by name. Specifically, Chester Miles Roberts, Jessie J. Roberts and George Dewey Roberts (my maternal grandfather).

Sirilda lived the greater majority of her life in Grundy County, Missouri, but sometime between 1920 and 1930 she and her husband moved to Walker, Vernon County, Missouri, and they lived the rest of their lives in that area of Missouri.
