Alice Jones Kountze Naples, FL Alice Jones Kountze of Naples, FL, wife of Denman Kountze Jr., died at the Bentley Care Center in Naples on Saturday, January 5, 2002 following her 75th birthday. Born in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Erwin Jones and Hamilton C. Jones III, prominent attorney and three term U.S. Congressman as well as co-founder of the Charlotte Memorial
Hospital. She was the granddaughter of William Allen Erwin, founder of the Erwin Cotton Mills of Durham, NC and builder of the town of Erwin, NC. Her husband, Denman Kountze, a long-time resident of Omaha, NB and former editor with the Omaha World Herald is a free-lance writer. He is a member of the pioneer Nebraska family that founded the Kountze Brothers Banks (the first banks opened west of the Missouri River, during the settlement of the western United States).
Besides her husband, Mrs. Kountze leaves two daughters and their spouses, a granddaughter, and a brother. A sister, Elizabeth Jones Boehmer predeceased her. She also leaves three nieces, one nephew and two step-sons. Mrs. Kountze spent the summers of her youth at Wrightsville Beach, NC where her family kept a home. She attended St. Mary's School, Raleigh, NC and graduated from Finch Junior College in New York City and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her many years in West Hartford, CT with former husband, Clinton Noble, she enjoyed and active
membership in The Hartford Golf Club, The Junior League of Hartford, The Town and Country Club, The Seedling Garden Club and St. John's Episcopal Church. In 1978 Mrs. Kountze relocated to Naples, where she was a supporter of the Naples Philharmonic as well as a member to The Royal Poinciana Golf Club, The Naples Yacht Club, The Port Royal Club, The League Club and the Surf Club of Wrightsville Beach, NC. She was a devoted and caring mother as well as a doting and loving grandmother. Her charm and exuberance brougt joy to a host of loyal friends and a sprawling extended family. A memorial service will be held at Trinity-By-The-Cove, Naples, FL on January 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. A service will also be held at Wrightsville Beach, NC in July 2002. Contributions in her name may be made to the American Diabetes Association; Memorial and Honor Programs, P.O. Box 2680, Canton, OH 44720. Services entrusted to Hodges Funeral Chapel, Naples, FL.
