Like his father, he was a jeweler. J. H. King was County Treasurer of Titus County from 1856 to the close of the war in 1865. He was re-elected in 1866 and removed by order of U.S. General Comdg. in 1867 and then re-elected again in 1873 and again re-elected until 1884 when he resigned.
