GRIFFITH, LEONA DIXON

Leona Dixon Griffith, 82, of Glenmary, died Saturday, August 16, 1997, at her home. Born in Scott County on March 25, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Maude Lawson Dixon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Robbins and a retired school teacher with 40 years of service to the Scott County school system. Mrs. Griffith was also a member of the Scott County Retired Teachers Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma fraternity. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray A. Griffith, in 1987; one sister, Lucille Dixon; one brother, Barney Dixon; and one nephew, Shawn Dixon. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Toney of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two sons: Ray Griffith, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas, and James Olson Griffith of Robbins, Tenn.; one special nephew, Michael Dixon of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one special sister-in-law, Una Babcock of Glenmary. Several other relatives also survive. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday "Aug. 20", 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Terry officiating. Funeral services will be held today "Thursday" at 2 p.m. at the Griffith Family Cemetery in Glenmary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: First Baptist Church of Robbins, P. O. Box 75, Robbins, TN 37852; or The Barton Chapel, P.O. Box 234, Robbins, TN 37852.
