"Elaine I. Howard, 77, Superior resident, died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
She was born on January 27, 1938 in Stone Lake, WI to William and Blanche (Stone) Corbine.
Elaine graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS and she received her Associates Degree in Nursing from the former W.I.T.I.
Elaine married her high school sweetheart Jason Howard in April of 1959 and enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband throughout his Air Force career.
She was an LPN for various nursing homes and Benet Hall St. Mary's for many years.
Elaine was a longtime member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and a member of L.C.O.
She enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by two daughters, Celeste (Steve) Ekberg and Susan (Brooks) Midbrod, both of Superior, WI; two sons, Jason (Mary) Howard, White Bear Township, MN and Joe Howard, Duluth, MN; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth and Jennifer Borgh, Katrina (Matt Anderson) Roberts, Maria Roberts, Michael (Hailee Meisner) Roberts and Grace and Katie Howard; several great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jason P. Howard, Sr. sister Shirley Thayer and brothers Leonard and John Corbine.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home with a scripture service to be held at 6:30 PM.
Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4 th Street, Superior and continue until the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
Elaine's grandchildren will be recognized as pallbearers along with her Godson Brian.
Elaine was very proud to be a miitary wife and mother.
