Lizzie was orphaned when she was about six years old and her guardian placed her with John Price and his wife who had no children of their own. They adored her and brought her up as their own.

She fell in love with one of the pupils at John Price's school and Mr. Price and his wife thought she was too young to marry and sent her with her guardian's approval to Bradford Academy in Haverhill, Mass.

Lizzie did marry Juan in August of 1854. She moved with him to his homeland, Cuba, until 1868 when they returned to Manchester-By-the-Sea, and then moved to Salem.

Lizzie bore eleven children, four of whom died as infants or toddlers.
