Obituary
Mr. Clarence Huitink, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, January 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot and the Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Internment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Clarence was born on September 13, 1924, to Gerrit J. and Winnie (Vander Ploeg) Huitink, on their farm north of Orange City, where he continued to live until his retirement. He was the only student in his class at the country school he attended through the eighth grade. He then helped his father on the farm, especially when his brother went off to WWII.

On February 15, 1946, he married Vera Jasper of Orange City. She went home to be with her Lord on September 17, 1977. On November 30, 1979, he married Eunice (Muilenburg) Oolman of Orange City.

He was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory. He was also one of the founding fathers of Unity Christian High School in Orange City.

In his retirement, he spent his time driving school bus, working for a construction company in the building of two churches in Orange City, being a groundskeeper, and in the later years, a faithful lawn mower and snow scooper. He enjoyed his garden and was especially proud of his "tomatoes". He loved trying to repair broken things. He enjoyed singing and was part of many quartets throughout his life. "Grandpa Great" always had a jar of jelly beans, to dispense treats to his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Vera, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Munch; a granddaughter, Rachel Tracy; all six of his siblings, Dorothy (Brandt) Bruxvoort, Charles Huitink, Tracy Huitink, Henry G. (Charlotte) Huitink, Hendrine (Gerrit) Punt, and Gertrude Harvey (Louie Niessink); two nephews, Brian Huitink and Harvey Bruxvoort; in-laws (by marriage to Vera), Jim, John, Ray, Arie, and George Jasper, Jessie Jeltema, Rena Huizenga, Alice Haarsma, and Hermina Terpstra; and in-laws (by marriage to Eunice), Anthony, Frank, Howard, Elmer, Marion, and Nelson Muilenburg, Gertrude Van Gorp, Margaret Van't Hof, and Henrietta Stander.
