Nancy Ellen Watson was the first of five children born to James Andrew and Martha (Renner) Watson, on Nov. 1, 1860, in Wise Co., Texas. At age eighteen she married William Archer Fullingim, who had migrated from Red River Co., in northeast Texas. They were married on Aug 10, 1879, in Denton, Denton Co., Texas. Having grown up in Wise County, Nancy would have been acquainted with the various Fullingim families who were pioneer settlers of the county, and ironically, her father's first wife was Jeanette Fullingim, one of the seventeen children of Rev. Henry and Martha (Wade) Fullingim, who were the grandparents of Nancy's husband, Wm. Archer Fullingim. Though the record is silent, it is assumed that Jeanette (Fullingim) Watson died in childbirth, and James Watson had thus married Martha Renner, a sister of one of his brothers-in-law!

Nancy and her husband resided in Wise County, Texas, during the first fifteen years of their marriage, and this is where she gave birth to their three children: two sons, James William (1880), John Frank (1884), and a daughter, Madge (1891). In 1894 she loaded up their three children into a covered wagon and accompanied her husband on their migration north across the Red River into Oklahoma Territory to a land claim six miles west of Could Chief in Washita County; the trip took nine days!
