Chico Daily Record, Friday, October 25, 1907, pg 5 col 4: Arthur Summers Whitney Dies At Stirling City. Arthur Sumner Whitney, a restaurant proprietor of Stirling City, and formerly a member of J.B. Carr & Company of that place, died yesterday morning at the age of 32 years [?], from acute gastritis.

Deceased was a native of Massachusetts, and had resided in Stirling City about two and a half years. He was a member of Stirling City lodge of Odd Fellows, and the first member of the lodge to pass away. He leaves a wife and young daughter. He was attended by Dr. W.H. Banks. During his residence in the mountain town deceased gained the respect and friendship of many who regret to learn of his early demise.

The body will be brought to Chico on the afternoon train today, accompanied by the wife and daughter and a delegation of the Stirling City lodge of Odd Fellows.

The funeral will be held from the Fetters & Williams mortuary parlors Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, under the auspices of Chico Lodge, I.O.O.F.
