In 1920 he and his wife and their two youngest children lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, in Grant Township, Osage County, KS. He and Harry both worked as coal miners.

In 1930 he lived with his son Harry and his family in a house they owned on one of the corners of South Fourth and East Lord Streets in Osage City. He and Harry both still worked as coal miners.

In 1940 he lived next door to his son Harry and his family near the corner of East Lord and South Fourth Streets in Osage City.
