PATROLMAN 2/12/1967 - 7/19/1980

AUCOIN, Joseph "Al" - 71, Waltham, Mass., died Sunday, November 14, 2004, in Epoch of Weston Senior Healthcare facility after a long illness.

Born in Cheticamp, a son of Minnie (LeFort), Cheticamp, and the late Dennis Aucoin, he had been a Waltham resident for the past 45 years.

Mr. Aucoin had been a Waltham Police Officer from 1967 until his retirement in 1980. He was then appointed a Massachusetts state park ranger and spent eight years in that position, which he greatly enjoyed because of his passion as an outdoorsman, and his love of fishing and camping. He had worked for many years for various local contractors.

An active ham radio operator, he enjoyed his many ham radio friends throughout the country. His Federal Communications Radio License was WA1-VDW. He was a member of the Waltham Lodge Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 953.

He leaves his children, William A. Aucoin and his wife Tonia, Maynard; Donald J. Aucoin and his wife Maia, and Allison E. Doucette and her husband Steven, all of Waltham; his former wife, Carol (Mulcahy) Crain, Waltham; siblings, Theresa Poirier, Velma Bourgeois, Clifford Aucoin, Gordon Aucoin, Leonard Aucoin, Johnny Aucoin and Bernie Aucoin, all of Canada; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was a brother of the late Edward Aucoin.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10 a.m. Friday, November 26th, in St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph du Moine, Father Sylvain Guilbault officiating. Interment took place at St. Joseph du Moine Cemetery, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
