Freda E. Hall, 94, formerly of Congress Street, Moravia, N.Y., died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at Cortland Care Center after a brief illness.
Miss Hall was born July 8, 1916, in the town of Summerhill, a daughter of E. Russell and Florence Latimer Hall.
She had been a resident of Moravia most of her life and wintered in Bradenton, Fla. The past two years she was a resident of Brewster House in Homer where she received excellent loving care.
She was a graduate of Homer High School in 1933, Cortland Normal School in 1936, and received her life certificate to teach from Syracuse University and her bachelor's in education from SUNY Cortland. Miss Hall was a rural school teacher from 1936-41, then taught math at Moravia Central School from 1931 until her retirement in June 1971.
Miss Hall was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moravia, Chapter No. 330 Order of Eastern Star of Moravia; NYS Retired Teachers Association and the Cayuga-Owasco Lakes Historical Society. She was active at the Anthony Memorial Gallery and in Bradenton Trailer Park and Bethel Baptist Church while wintering in Florida.
She is survived by a sister, Esther Decker of West Groton; a brother, Elbert R. (Virginia) Hall of Summerhill; sister-in-law, Virginia Hall of Moravia and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Whatman; and a brother, Harold Hall.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at The First Baptist Church of Moravia. Burial will be in West Homer Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Moravia or Brewster House in Homer.
