Silas Green was a son of Felix and Millis Green, and was born in Shelby county, IL, July 27, 1841, and passed away July 29, 1934, at the home of Mrs. Effie Griffith, near Cerro Gordo, at the age of 93y 2ds. Mr. Green's first wife was Anna Perryman, daughter of John and Maggie Perryman. Later he married Miss Alice Perryman. Six children were born of each marriage. He was preceded in death by both of his wives, and four of his children. The surviving children are: Warren C. Green, Chicago; Rhoades Green, Mexico, NE; Ray Green, Maricapo, CA; Mrs. Effie Griffith, Cerro Gordo; Arthur Green, Decatur; Mrs. Clara Hunter, Ramsey; Adolph Green, Stonington; Charles Green, Plumb Creek, MT. All were present, except Ray and Charles, whose homes are in the far west. "Uncle Silas" as he was widely known and familiarly called, was a pioneer farmer, and later a blacksmith in this community. He was a staunch member of the Baptist church, and was an intelligent Bible student and stalwart Christian. From an obituary in the Shelbyville Democrat – 9 Aug 1934
