She was born June 18, 1919 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the daughter of Oscar Burton and Berta Cherrington Nielsen.
Her mother died when she was four years old, and she was then raised by her grandmother, Frances (Fanny) Newby Cox. She married Scott Huff on September 26, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died June 8, 2006.
Muriel worked in the primary for twenty-five-plus years. She mostly taught the boys and the CTR pre-baptism class.
She served as secretary of the Primary and Relief Society. She was called to work in the Provo LDS Temple and loved every minute of it. She loved doing nice things for people, she made numerous casseroles and soups for the widows.
She loved to sew, knit and crochet, her hands were always busy. She loved to make quilts and made hundreds for family and friends. She worked at Stone Drug for many years, where she made the world's best hamburgers and root beer floats.
Survivors include three daughters and one son: Sondra (John) Sorensen of Bountiful; Blake (Beth) Huff of Lake Shore; Collett (Jay) Flanders of West Valley; Marsha (Allyn) Walker of Spanish Fork; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her two sisters and a brother: Thelma Beardall, Ella Stuart, and Oscar Blaine Nielsen; three grandchildren: Joyce and John Sorensen and Lee Scott Flanders.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Lake Shore LDS Ward Chapel, 5916 South 3200 West, Lake Shore. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork on Sunday evening 6 until 8 p.m. or Monday at the ward relief society room from 9:45 until 10:45 am prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
