He was born February 16, 1921 and grew into a strong, independent man helping his mother, Grace Lyman Peterson, raise her family which consisted of himself and sister, Marjorie.
He fixed his first car when he was six years old and spent the rest of his life working in the garage. His love of cars was eclipsed only by his love for his family.
After serving in the Army Air Force during World War II, he returned home and married his true love, Verna Marie Hedberg, on October 22, 1948. He spent the rest of his life with her, teaching their boys, loving their grandchildren, and spoiling his "Little Sweetie."
Virgil is survived by his two sons, Kenneth V. (Holly) and Keith V.; eighteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Little Cottonwood Twelfth Ward Chapel, 6180 South Glenoaks Drive (855 East). Friends and family may call on Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), and Monday at the Church from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
