She was the daughter of William Monroe "Billy" Lindsey and Susan Ann Ziegler. She married Walter Jerome "Rhonie" Bates on April l7, 1906 in St. Helena Parish, LA. Walter was the son of Francis Marion Maryland Bates and Mary Elizabeth Jane Rawlinson.
She smoked a corn pipe.

BATES RITES TODAY IN GILLSBURG CHURCH
Funeral services were scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. today in the Gillsburg, Miss. Baptist Church for Mrs. Susie Estelle Lindsey Bates, age 71, who died yesterday morning at her home in the Thomas community. The remains lay in state in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Home at Franklinton until 12:30 p.m. today, when the funeral cortege formed for the trip to Gillsburg.
Survivors are five sons, Enos Bates, New Orleans; Jess of McComb, Miss.; Frank of Independence; Bunyan of the Thomas community and William M. Bates, New Orleans; four daughters, Mesdames Gladys B. Foster, Celia Sharp, Ruth Bullock, Franklinton and Myrtis Ryan, Bogalusa; one brother, Charlis Lindsey of Kentwood, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Elemine Lawson of Osyka, Miss. and Mrs. Celia Evans of Kentwood; 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
