From the Rutland Daily Herald, Sept. 16, 1913:
Proctor - John Henry Patch, an old resident of this village, died Monday at his residence on Patch hill at 12.05 o'clock after an illness of about 18 months. Mr. Patch was born at Hanover, N.H., in 1845 and came to Vermont with his parents when quite young, to this village. He was for sometime an engineer on the Rutland railroad and during the Civil war was a member of the 12th Vermont regiment, company K. Mr. Patch had been employed by the Vermont Marble company for about 40 years and was an expert quarry foreman. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Patch, her son C.C. Osbourne, of St. Louis, Mo., and by two brothers, Fred R. Patch and William Patch of Rutland.
