Morris Vernon Simmerly was born on July 19, 1917, in Sullivan, Missouri to John Henry Simmerly and Anna Blanton Simmerly. He departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan,Missouri at the age of 85 years, one month and 24 days. Morris came from a large family of seven brothers and two sisters. He was a life-long resident of the Bourbon area,where he worked at Paramount Headware 61 years, retiring as a foreman.

On June 5, 1942, Morris Vernon Simmerly was united in marriage to Eleanor Hoerath at the United Methodist Parsonage, Bourbon, Missouri and to this union three daughters were born.
Morris was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge IOOF #156, Rebekah Lodge #319, Cantons of Sullivan #49, Grand Lodge IOOF of MO and United Methodist Men's Club of Bourbon. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening and cooking for the various fund-raisers of the organizations he belonged to.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Connie Kell; his brothers, Rolla, Virgil, Henry, Jess, Ashley, Frank and Eircil Simmerly; two sisters, Elsie Cardwell and Marie Pinnell.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his dear wife, Eleanor of the home; his daughters, Bonnie Peterson and husband Gary of Bourbon, Missouri and Kathy West and husband Barry of Leasburg, Missouri; his son-in-law Rev. David Kell and wife Rev. Barbara Kell of Aurora, Illinois; his sister, Gertie Miller of Sullivan, Missouri; his grandchildren, Christopher Peterson and wife Kim, Alison Phillips and husband Bob, Sarah Peterson, Grant West, Vanessa Kell and Kevin Kell; nephews, nieces, other relativesand many friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Morris Vernon
Simmerly.

Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon, Missouri with a memorial service by the Oddfellows Lodge IOOF #156 at 7 p.m.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. Burial was at Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.

All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Bourbon,
Missouri.
