Robert J. Tate, 87, passed away on October 9, 2010. He was born February 19, 1923, in Galloway, Mo., to Nuil and John Tate, who preceded him in death.
Robert enlisted in the Navy in 1942, and was a pilot during World War II. He married Dorothy Moore Tate June 6, 1951. Later he graduated from MSU with a BS in Math and Physics. He retired from Springfield City Utilities. Robert was a basketball and football fan and enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was a generous person and donated regularly to the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. Robert also loved spending time with family.
Robert was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Tate; his brothers, Norman, Cecil, Louis, and Jesse Tate; a sister, Dorothy Bonham; and a niece, Andrea Russell.
Surviving Robert is his wife, Dorothy; son, Mike and wife Teddi Tate, of Salem, Ore., their children, Eva and Mei; grandchildren, Angela Buis and husband Mike, John Tate, and Jessica Downey, all of Springfield, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Kyle Tate, Keira Downey, Gabe, and Keegan Buis.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Eastlawn Funeral Home Chapel, at 2244 E. Pythian, Springfield, Mo. The funeral service will at 2 p.m., on Friday, October 15. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
