Elva Ellen Summers, 101, of Independence, died Friday, May 30, 2008, in the Golden Living Nursing Home in Morgantown.

She was born on April 30, 1907, at Moody's Run, near Barrackville, a daughter of the late Permetus Seckman and Eliza (Yost) Wilson. She was the last surviving member of 10 brothers and sisters.

She was a member of the Church of Christ at Howesville and a former member of the Barrackville Church of Christ.

She attended Barrackville High School, and she was part of the first four-year graduating class of 1925, of which she was the valedictorian and oldest living alumna.

She was a member of the Wilson Family singing group, which performed for many funerals, weddings, and other functions in the community. They also sang on WMMM radio.

She is survived by one son and spouse, Donald and Glenda Summers of Independence; two daughters, Eliza Pauline Mobley of West Lafayette, OH, and Mary Ellen Josephson of Coatesville, PA; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ellis Donovan Summers, and six brothers and four sisters.
