The wholesale and retail hardware store of Lewis C. Thompson, at the corner of Center and Market streets, Pottsville was established by Messrs. Stichter & Thompson in 1856. Ten years later, Mr. Thompson became the sole proprietor, and as such carried on the business for several years, until his brother, Heber S. Thompson, became associated with him and the firm was known as L.C. Thompson & Co.
