Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Reno with the Rev. Jack Elliott officiating.
Burial follows in Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom under the direction of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home.
The family receives friends one hour prior to service at the church.
Betty was born October 20, 1929, in Lamar County, a daughter of Lois Carroll Nowell and Aileen Anderson Nowell.
She received her Bachelor's degree in science from Mississippi University for Women, her Master's degree in science from Central Missouri State University, and her Doctorate of Education in Science from the University of Mississippi, all in speech-language pathology and audiology.
She served two clinical fellowship years at the North Mississippi Rehabilitation Canter prior to a number of years of employment as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist in the Starkville Public Schools.
However, her greatest accomplishment was her love and dedication to her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dr. Joe Maddux Blackbourn Sr. of Starkville, MS; sons, Dr. Joe Maddux (Vonda) Blackbourn Jr. of Oxford, MS, Dr. Richard (Jennifer) Blackbourn of Clemson, S.C.; grandsons, Marshall & Forrest Blackbourn of Clemson, Lucien Blackbourn of Oxford; granddaughters, Audra, Alyssa and Victoria Blackbourn of Oxford.
