Gene Allen Whitley, 62, Colbert died Sunday September 17, 2006 at his residence. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Colbert on Wednesday September 20, 2006. Rev. Ronnie Harris, Rev. Norman Ford and Ronnie Briedwell will officate.
He was born Sunday July 30, 1944 in Whitewright, Texas to to Thomas Jefferson and Zula Izona Dark Whitley. He married Malinda Jane Duke January 1, 1972 in Durant, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Colbert. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and arrowhead hunting. He served in the army from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Verna Jean McKinney and infant brother Jackie.
He is survived by his wife of Colbert; son Gene and wife Leiann of Platter; daughter Stasha of Platter; sister Mary Frances Fultz of Bakersfield California; mother and father-in-law Lyle and Helen Wright of Durant; close friends Charlie and Gale Adams of Cartwright, Ronnie and Lawanna Briedwell of Silo; granddaughters Alexis and Danica Olguin, Jessica and Baylee Whitley all of Platter; numerous family member and a host of friends.
Burial will be in Garden of Memory in Colbert with Brian Cummins, Gene Thompson, Doug Bailey, Richard Jordon, Jimmy Key, Woody Alexander, Jay Johnson and Phillip Milam serving as pallbearers.
Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home of Durant is handling arrangements.
