Joseph Alves, 78, of Fuller St. was called to Heaven on Saturday, March 11, 2006. Born in Ludlow, he was a lifelong resident and a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving his country honorably during WWII. He worked for many area manufacturing companies, was a delivery person for Chmura's Bakery for many years, and most recently worked for Big Y Supermarket before his retirement in 1992. Joseph loved having coffee with his close friends at the Eastfield Mall and especially enjoyed cooking for his children and grandchildren. He also loved sports, was an avid NY Yankees fan and was one of the founders of Fatima CYO Sports Programs. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Bennett) Alves, who predeceased him in 1988; a loving father to Joseph Alves and his wife Linda of Springfield, Robert Alves and his wife Vicki, Thomas Alves and his wife Karen, Kathryn Nowak, all of Ludlow, and Joan Streeter of Bernardston, Ma.; a dear brother to Tony and Mary Alves, both of Belchertown, Tabs Alves, Theresa Goodrich, Lucy Lavoie and Zenda Leary, all of Ludlow, and the late Carlos Alves; a cherished grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 8. Funeral services are on Wednesday morning at 9:30am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:30am followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation is on Tuesday from 4-7pm and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph's memory to American Diabetes Association 306 Industrial Park Rd. Suite 105 Middletown, CT, 06457.
