This is a memorial page. M.J.A. "Mac" Alford is buried in a private burial ground located on the old Alford home place sold by the family in 1905. His burial location has been lost along with 2 of their children, as he nor the children had headstones. In more recent times this was known as the Gene Lewis place. The graves were located near a spring located behind the old Lewis house which has since been burned. (This information comes from Avis (Lewis) Eisen, daughter of Gene Lewis.) This spring was also known as the Alford Springs and at one time was the local swimming hole for the area children.

M.J.A. Alford was married first to a Sarah ?. She died in Freestone County before 1867 and is buried in an unknown location. M.J.A. Alford then married Elizabeth Waldrum, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Satterwhite) Waldrum on Dec. 24, 1867 in Freestone County. Mac died between the 1880 Census and 1889 when his daughter Fannie married. The marriage is recorded to have taken place at the home of Mrs. Mac Alford; therefore Mr. Alford was deceased by the marriage of Fannie. On the 1900 Census, Elizabeth is a widow with 3 children still living at home.

The family name seems to be Mack Jimpsey Anderson. This may be what M. J. A. represents. Mac served in the CSA from May 3, 1862 until April 9, 1965 in the 12th TX Inf., Co. It is also known as Young's Reg. and 8th Reg. TX Inf. He served on extra duty as the Assistant Regiment Carpenter and then later the Brigade Carpenter for most of his service time.
