Chance Webster Smith, 62, of rural St. Louis, passed away early Saturday morning at the Gratiot Comm. Hospital in Alma. He had been in poor health four years.
Mr. Smith was born in Berne, Indiana on March 19, 1903, the son of Mary and Alexander Otto Smith. He served with the Army during WWI. For many years he was employed at the O.O. Mitchell Machine Shop in St. Louis.
Surviving are his wife, Violet; one son, Chance and one daughter, Karen, both at home; two step-sons, James and George Tester; two step-daughters, Helen and Bonnie Tester, all at home; three brothers, Thurman and John, both of St. Louis and Edward of Midland; three sisters; Mrs. Jerry Bupp of Sturgis; Mrs. Constance Hausbeck of Saginaw and Mrs. Travis Wellborn of Texas.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1:30 pm from the Carter Funeral Home. Rev. Raymond Fish of St. Louis officiated and burial was in the Poseyville Cemetery in Midland County.
