Clarence A (Bert) Hitchcock, 82, of RR 2, Decatur, formerly of Oconee, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov 15, in the Ashcraft Nursing Home, where he had been a patient since Mar 28.
He was born in Shelby County on Mar 4, 1879, a son of the late Isaac N and Margaret Halbrook Hitchcock, and was married to Alta McNutt, who died Sept 20, 1920. Mr Hitchcock was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and Oconee Lodge No 392, AF&AM.
Surviving are the following children: Max of Pana, Mrs Mabel Hilton of Rockford, Mrs Margaret Carter of Riverside, Cal., Mrs Garnet Roderick of Decatur, Mrs Martha Swanson and Mrs Evelyn Austin of Kirkland, Ill, and Roy of San Marcos, Cal; a sister, Mrs Pearl Mount of Pomona, Cal; 20 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the McCracken Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with burial in Oconee Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3:00 p.m. Friday. Masonic rites will be conducted at service time Saturday.
