Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rainbow Memorial Gardens for Matthew Clark Alford, 28, Hokes Bluff, who died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010. Richard Harper will officiate. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory directing.
Matthew was taken up into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, where he will be forever in His arms. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him. Matthew will always and forever be remembered as the best son and brother and will always be in our hearts. He was a lifelong resident of Etowah County and a graduate of Hokes Bluff High School, class of 2000. Matthew was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy from 2000 to 2004, where he was highly decorated for outstanding service and bravery. He attended CrossPoint Community Church and was preceded in death by his Paw Paw, Harold B. Overstreet.
Survivors include mother, Susan O. Alford, Hokes Bluff; sister, Morgan Alford, Hokes Bluff; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Jared Smith, Chad Smith, Burt Lavender, Tim Lavender and Chase Smedley. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Brian McFarland, VAMC, Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
