Nelle Colquitt Michael was the daughter of John Marion and Alice Sherwood Wise Michael.

On July 17, 1912, Nelle married Jerry Warren "Jere" Chamlee in Walton County, Georgia (Walton County Marriage Book, 1905-1914, p. 346). They were married by Dr. Aquila Chamlee, M.G. and brother of Jere Chamlee.

They had several children: Nelle Sherwood, Alice Melinda, Jere Michael, and Moina Ann Chamlee.

Nelle Michael Chamlee, 95, of Canton died Thursday, Nov. 8, at Coker Nursing Home.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 9, from the Chapel of Huey Funeral Home. Burial followed in South View Cemetery.

Mrs. Chamlee was a retired school teacher. During her years of service in the Canton area, Mrs. Chamlee served as creative arts chairman of the 12-year planning program in the Canton Public Schools.

She was appointed by the State of Georgia in the late 1930's as a delegate to work to work on the revision of the Georgia School Curriculum Committee. She was initiated into the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in 1953 in recognition of her outstanding work in the teaching profession.

She was a charter member of the local and state education association chapters and served in various offices of the 9th District organization. In 1957, the Georgia State Chamber of Commerce presented her the Teacher of the Year Award, the same year she retired from the Canton School System after 41 years of teaching; having taught the second grade in this system.

Mrs. Chamlee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton.

She is survived by one son, Jerry Michael Chamlee; three daughters, Mrs. Schley Howard of Stone Mt., Mrs. William Booth of Woodstock and Mrs. Walter Nims of Natick, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
