BISHOP, Addlor J. 1899-1971
WOOLWICH --- Addlor J. "Pat" Bishop, 71, former fire chief, died Friday morning at a Bath hospital, shortly after admittance. He lived on Tallman Road on the bank of the Kennebec River.
He was born in South Gardiner, Jan. 30, 1899, the son of Patrick and Celana Vachon Bishop. He attended Gardiner schools. For many years he worked for the S.D. Warren Co. in Gardiner. He served on the Gardiner Fire Department for 38 years, eight of which he was captain of the Hose Company. He was appointed Woolwich Fire Chief in 1963, after the death of Hadley H. Smith and retired a few years ago.
He was also a guide in the Rockwood area and later in the Gardiner – Dresden area. He moved to Bath in 1949 and to Woolwich in 1952. He retired seven years ago from the pipe shop of Bath Iron Works.
He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Navy, and was a member of the Gardiner and Bath American Legion. He was a state forest fire warden for Woolwich.
Surviving are his wife, the former Audrey Nash; a son, Patrick H. Bishop, Gardiner; three stepsons, Richard E, Woodman, West Bath, Kenneth Woodman, Portland, and David Woodman, Woolwich; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Callahan, Gardiner, and Mrs. Margaret Dyer, Trenton, N.J.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Joyce Ward, Dennysville, and Mrs. Beverly Hallstrom, South Portland; two sisters, Mrs. Laura N. Caron, Randolph, and Mrs. Madeline Hamel, Auburn; 34 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Mayo funeral residence, 819 High St., Bath. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Woolwich, in the spring.
