"Fort Hill Precinct – Lake County.
Editor Plaindealer: - Since my last communication to your paper another of our old settlers has left us.
Died at the residence of her son, John N. Rowling, in Avon, on Saturday, July 16th, 1887, Mrs. Delia Edwards aged 74 years and six months. Mrs. Edwards was born in Manlius, Onondaga County, New York, where she grew up to womanhood and was married to Joseph Rowling. In 1845, they came to Lake County, Ill. and landed at Little Fort, (now Waukegan) and settled at Avon Center where they lived a short time and then then went to Spring Grove, McHenry county, Ill., where Mr. Rowling died in 1847, leaving a family of five children. He was a miller by trade and worked in Bliven's Mill, at Spring Grove. After the death of her husband Mrs. Rowling returned to Avon Center, where, in 1848, she was married to Emmet Edwards, a brother of the late Churchel Edwards. Mr. Edwards lived but two or three years after their marriage, having been injured by a threshing machine, which injury was the cause of his sudden death. Mrs. Edwards succeeded in raising her family of seven children, six of whom, four sons and two daughters, survive her, and all but one live in Lake county. She was a member of the Methodist church, an exemplary Christian and highly esteemed by all who knew her. Her funeral was held at Centennial church on Sunday, July 17th, and her remains rest in the beautiful cemetery at Avon Center."
