J.W. Brown died in August 1898, leaving Fletcher, Claudie, Sam and Eugene under the age of 18. Sally and Leila were grown and married and took care of the girls until they married and also the boys. After Fletcher and Claudie married, Fletcher had Sam and Eugene living with her and her husband Pet Milliner in 1900 Census,and the four of them lived next door to sister Claudie and her husband John Melton. His wife Frances ElizabethWilkerson Brown and their mother had died in 1892. Another daughter Lila Brown Ginn had died at age 22 in 1894, He and Frances (sometimes called Fanny ) had lost numerous infants.
