JAY - Lance B. Allen, 16, a resident of Crash Road in Jay, died very unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 27, at his home.

Lance was born on Oct. 2, 1991, in Lewiston, the son of Gene Jr. and Debra (Simoneau) Allen. He was a sophomore at Jay High School and a talented athlete, excelling in football and basketball. He was a member of area youth sports, where he participated in basketball, baseball and football, and also played for their basketball travel team.

Lance played AAU basketball and attended football camps at Bates College and University of Maine at Orono. Lance loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, snowboarding, fishing and hunting. He was also a junior fireman for the Jay Fire Department. He was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and his dog Rosie.

Lance is survived by his parents, Gene and Debra Allen of Jay; a sister, Brenda Allen of Jay; grandparents, Gene Sr. and Ann Allen of Jay, Elaine and Bob Haley of Jay and Neree Simoneau and Sabra Stirling of Wilton; great-grandmother, Nana Myrtle Allen of Jay; aunts and uncles, Nancy Wilkins of Lewiston, Lisa and Robert Jackson of Carthage, Julie Simoneau of Wilton, Peggy and Ron Crosby of Portland, Bruce Wilkins of Livermore and Kevin and Kanae Haley of Freeport; and many, many cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Brenda Wilkins Grondin; an aunt, Cindy Simoneau; and a cousin, Jessica Simoneau.
