Carlton Eanes, Sr.
Died Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Carlton Eugene "Blimp" Eanes Sr., 69, of 989 North Fork Road, Martinsville, who died Feb. 28, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Baptist Church. Pastor Dan Schelling will officiate. Burial will be in the Eanes family cemetery at Axton.
The family will receive friends at the church 6:30-8:30 p.m. today, and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Victory International Ministries, P.O. Box 737, Fieldale, Va. 24089.
He was born June 4, 1937, in Martinsville to Samuel Woodrow Eanes and Laura Hundley Eanes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Leonard Eanes.
He graduated from Drewey Mason High School in 1957; worked at DuPont and played basketball in the Industrial League Basketball. He also coached Tiny Mite basketball. Eanes retired from DuPont after 29 years as a control room technician.
He was a member of the East Coast Flat Head Associates, the Southern Vintage Modified Racing Association and the Patrick Henry Saddle Club. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Carolyn Ashby Eanes of the home; two daughters, Martha Eanes Matherly and Nancy Dee Eanes, both of Mountain Valley; a son, Carlton Eugene Eanes Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Loretta Eanes Whitlow of Axton; a brother, A. Ray Eanes of Axton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
