James was put into the foster home of (Perry Beagle # 3885630) in Pendleton, Umitilla Co. Oregon after the death of his mother in 1873. After the death of his father in 1884, James at about the age of 13 ran away from the Beagle home and became a cowboy. James later lived in E.St.Louis where He married Bessie Myrtle ATKINS and where they raised their twin children. They then moved to Michigan in the late 20s and James became a millwright for Ford Motor Company. Wesley Bedwell, one of his grandchildren, fondly remembered him telling his "cowboy stories".
