COL Hiram Miller Bledsoe, Jr

Hiram Miller Bledsoe, Jr. was a Civil War Confederate Officer and Missouri State Senator. Col. Bledsoe served during the Civil War as a Colonel and commander of the famous H.M. Bledsoe Battery of the 6th Missouri State Guard. He participated in military battles from Carthage and Wilson's Creek, Missouri, to Pea Ridge, to Corinth, Shiloh, Chickamouga and Jonesboro, finally surrendering his men to the Union forces in New Orleans. The only monument erected by the CSA at Chickamauga was the Missouri Monument. The legislature of his state recognizing the splendid record made by Bledsoe's Battery, complimented Capt. Bledsoe by putting his name on the Monument. During his military career hi successes and heroics were rewarded with the gift of a silver mounted artillery cannon by the Confederate Congress. The famous cannon was named "Old Sacramento" and was after the war melted down and recast into other cannon, some of which still are on display. He was wounded six times during the war, twice seriously. He was a favored son of the Confederate Generals Price and Shelby. "No braver man ever followed the "bonny blue flag" than Capt. Hiram Bledsoe". Following the war Col. Bledsoe returned to Cass County, Mo. where he operated a farm and served one term as a State Senator. He was married to Mary D. Harrison of Callaway Co., Mo. in 1868. They had no children.
