She was the daughter of Philip Henry Dörr and Margaretha Hess. Her birth was recorded in the records of Zion Lutheran Church (Lancaster, Pa.) as Feb. 19, 1842, and her subsequent baptism on May 15, 1842.

In the census taken July 17, 1860, Louisa's age was given as 20. Actually she was 18, having been married in November 1859 at 17 1/2. In August 1860 son Henrich was born. In March 1862, William was born and later that year, Christ went off to serve in the Civil War. Over the 21 years of her marriage, she had 10 children. She died at age 38 1/2.
