Frederick Simion Buckingham was born the son of Joseph Henry Buckingham and Harriet Ann Dudley. They are buried in this cemetery. Fred served in Army in during the Civil War. ~0bit~Frederick Simion Buckingham was born in Hennepin, Putnam County, Illinois on December 12, 1846. When he was nine years old the family moved to Iowa settling near Troy Mills. In 1863 Mr. Buckingham enlisted in the 9th Iowa Infantry and continued in the Civil War service for one and one-half years. In 1867 he was joined in marriage with Lydia Risdon. To this union seven children were born three of whom survive him. Mrs. August Sauer, of Walker; Harry Wallace of this city, and Leslie of Moline, Illinois. Mrs. Buckingham died in October, 1893, and Mr. Buckingham removed to Independence. He was again married in 1895 to Mrs. Louisa Woodward. To this second union one child was born, Mrs. Jeannette Errin, of Newton, Iowa. Mr. Buckingham has been ill for some time and he passed to the beyond Sunday morning at about 2:45 a.m. Mr. Buckingham leaves to mourn his loss a wife, his four children, and eight grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. William Long, of Miami, Florida, who was present at the last rites. The funeral took place Tuesday. the body was interred in the Troy Mills cemetery where the other members of the family are buried.

~0bit-F. S. Buckingham, 71, passed away Sunday morning at 4 a.m. at his home north of town. His death was due to general deblity following applexy. The funeral services were held Tuesday. There was a prayer service at the home, Dr. Nye officiating and the remains were taken to Troy Mills for burial, where there was a large attendance, the pastor there officiating. Surviving are Mrs. August Sauer, Walker; Harry W, Independence, and Leslie, Moline, Illinois. Mrs. Buckingham died in October 1893. In 1895 Mr. Buckingham was married to Mrs. Louisa (Grabast) Woodward in Independence, Iowa. They were parents of Jeanette Dorothy Sandifur. Besides his widow and children, Mr. Buckingham leaves eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one sister Mrs. William Long of Miami, Florida also survives. She was here for the funeral.

Walker News: The funeral of Mr. Fred Buckingham whose death occurred at Independence was held in the Methodist church last Tuesday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. Hiner of Newtonville. Internment was made in the Troy Mills cemetery. Mr. Buckingham has lived around Troy Mills a large part of his life and was known by everybody.

Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa January 24, 1923: Mrs. Louisa Buckingham, aged 68, passed to her eternal reward last Wednesday, January 24, near the midnight hour. She lived north of town, but was taking treatment at the Peoples's Hospital at the time of her demise. The cause of her death was diabetes culminating in a stroke of paralysis.
Louisa Grabast was born in Stark county, Ohio, July 26, 1854, and died at Independence, Iowa, January 24, 1923 after an illness of one week's duration. With her parents she left Ohio when she was 12 years old, moving to Missouri. She was united in mariage with W.F. Wodward in January 1872. To this union seven children born. The family moved to Buchanan county, Iowa, in 1882, taking up Hazleton, as their first place of residence. Five years later they moved to Independence, Iowa, where she had continuous residence to the day of her death. Her husband died June 1, 18 at Independence, Iowa. Her second marriage was with Fred Simion Buckingham in the year 1895. To this union one child, Mrs. Jeanete Dorothy Sandifur, was born. She leaves to mourn her death eight children and sixteen grandchildren. The children are: Henry A. of Independence; Belinda Husband of Sumner, Iowa; Melvin of Wakond, South Dakota; Elizabeth Howel of Minong, Wisconsin; Orlando of Isle, Minesota; Guy of Wisconsin; Grace Oliver of Independence and Jeanette Sandifur of Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Buckingham has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church nearly all her life, joining when she was 16 years old. She became a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Independence, Iowa, under the pastorate of Rev. M. H. Smith in 1892. She was a faithful Christian woman. Loyal to the interest of the Kingdom of God, regular in her attendance at the church and Sunday school, where she will be greatly missed by her pastor and teacher. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Friday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J.K. Hawkins oficiating. The body was then laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery. Row J with her son Henry A. Woodward.
